This is what she has to say:
Hello my name is Sarah and I am 11 years old. I hope you and your family are keeping well in these hard times.Do you know we use 5 trillion plastic bags per year and there are more microplastic in the ocean than stars in the Milky Way? There is a popular idea of cutting our emissions half by 10 years but that only gives children my age half the chance to live and half the chance to stay below 1.5 degrees Celsius for the rest of our lives. This leaves the big risk of setting irrevocable chain reactions that are beyond my or your control. 50% reduction in emissions may be acceptable to the people in charge but those numbers do not include additional global warming concealed by toxic air pollution or the aspects of climate justice. A 50% risk is simply not acceptable – some children will never know what unfaithfulness this world gave us. So lets help save Mother Earth. Not convinced: Plastic bottles are cooked up using an industrial chemical called Bisphenol A. BPA for short. It is an endocrine disrupter – they mess with our systems and can cause diabetes and heart disease! It is serious - so stop using plastic! Every time someone throws away a piece of plastic, it travels several hundred miles to end up on shores and in birds. Around 5 trillion pieces of plastic are already in the ocean and by 2050 it is estimated that there will be more plastic by weight than fish in the sea. Many fish already have high levels of micro plastics in their systems and they are passing it right up the food chain to us – we are poisoning the poor fish and getting poisoned ourselves in return. Americans consume 30 billion bottles of water a year – that is enough to go around the planet 190 times! You must be wondering, well, how we can make a difference so here are a few ways - change cling film to beeswax wrappers or reusable silicone covers, instead of buying fruit and vegetables in plastic wrapping, try and get them in jars or buy them loose. Did you know that you east plastic even if you are a vegetarian! Would you like to prevent that? Then instead of using toothpaste with microbeads – get micro plastic free toothpaste or tooth powder! Plastic bags end up in our oceans and seas, choking marine life - tangling the poor animals. Plastic is eaten by several animals like birds, whales, turtles and many more animals. Plastic lasts forever but still very few companies are acting and only 6% of it is either recycled or reused. These bags end up in landfill and they litter our communities as well as causing a catastrophe for the local wildlife and parks. My question to the people leading the country is if they have ever thought about the impact of plastic on the environment around us? So, to save not only Mother Earth but the nature too, it is all up to intelligent minds to take a step forward and ban plastic bags. Please visit my website: Sarah.piplani.co.uk It continues to talk about this topic. So without further ado help save our planet! Remember every little bit helps! You have the power to save it! Lets take action together! Sarah
